Best Marketing and Sales Books for New Coaches Who Want to Get Clients
Truth be told- If you are a new coach I don’t think you should start with marketing books.
At the beginning, your focus has to be on-
your network,
the people around you,
and making sure people actually know what you do.
Because people cannot refer clients to you if they don’t even know you are coaching.
If you want to read more about that:
“How To Get Your First Clients as a Career Transition Coach”
With that being said-
Once you start building momentum, marketing and sales become really important.
And honestly,
Most marketing books are way too theoretical- these books are different.
They can actually help you:
get clients,
understand sales,
build a coaching business,
and market yourself without feeling fake online.
1. BOOK YOURSELF SOLID — MICHAEL PORT
This is a really good book especially when you’re building the foundation of your coaching business. It feels more like a workbook than a regular book.
You can literally read a chapter and implement as you go.
And honestly, if you’re someone who actually does the exercises instead of just highlighting sentences, this book can help a lot.
It breaks down how a service-based business actually operates.
Things like:
how to talk about what you do,
how to position yourself,
how to get clients consistently,
and how to stop relying only on random motivation.
For new Career Coaches, this is highly important because coaching businesses usually grow through relationships and trust first.
This book helps simplify that process.
2. NO B.S. GUIDE TO DIRECT MARKETING — DAN KENNEDY
I’ve read and listened to this book multiple times and I’ll probably go through it many more times.
I really like Dan’s way of thinking. This book focuses on real marketing that brings actual results. Forget trying to follow Instagram trends or dancing on tiktok.
It focuses on the most important thing- how to get actual clients that pay.
This book will help you understand:
how to communicate value,
how to write better messaging,
and how to sell in a way that actually makes people understand why you are a good fit.
What I like most is that it simplifies marketing into something that actually feels doable.
Not something that changes every five minutes depending on social media trends.
If you care more about clients than likes,
This is a great book.
If you just want to go viral- skip this book.
3. TRAFFIC SECRETS — RUSSELL BRUNSON
This book focuses a lot on traffic, funnels, audience building, and bringing people into your world online.
And listen- Russell really knows how to build funnels.
There’s a lot of practical information in this book.
This was the first book I read from him and it gave me a completely different perspective on online business and lead generation.
For new and career coaches especially,
I think this book helps answer a very important question:
“How do people actually find me?”
Because coaching is not just about being good at coaching.
People also need to know you exist.
This book will help you understand:
how traffic works,
how funnels work,
and how to move people from “finding you” into actually becoming part of your audience or business.
You don’t need to implement everything exactly the way he teaches it.
But there are a lot of practical ideas you can take from it.
4. THE $100M SERIES — ALEX HORMOZI
At the writing of this text- there are 3 books to this series and I honestly can’t recommend just one book from this series.
Even though Alex gets a lot of hate, especially in the coaching space (because of him being very pro- hustle culture and working harder) there’s still a lot to learn from him if you can get past the noise.
He’s very good at explaining human behavior.
And when you understand human behavior better,
you naturally become better at:
creating offers,
getting leads,
and making sales.
What I like about his books is that they are extremely practical and easy to understand.
No complicated language.
No trying to sound smart.
Just:
Here’s what works,
Here’s why,
Now go try it.
I think that’s very useful for new coaches because business can already feel overwhelming enough.
One thing I really like about the $100M Leads book is that it gives many different ways to get leads.
You don’t need to do all of them.
Just pick what feels aligned with your personality and strengths.
Now that I think about it- that’s probably the best approach with any business book.
Don’t treat any book like a Bible.
Take what works for you and leave the rest.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Getting coaching clients is not about doing everything.
It’s about understanding:
what works,
what fits your personality,
and what you can actually stay consistent with.
Those books can help you- improve your offers, understand marketing, get more leads, and become more confident selling your coaching.
But just like coaching itself-
Reading is not enough.
At some point you need to start having conversations, testing things, and learning through real experience.
That’s how coaching businesses actually grow.
